We got our first snow of the winter yesterday, it started snowing about 11 AM and snowed most of the day and into the night before it turned into a light rain.

This morning the birds were out hunting for seed to fight the cold.

This tiny bird is a year round resident here in NW Oregon but it is rare that I get a good quality shot of this fast moving little critter. The fact that it prefers to live in coniferous forests where the lighting is dim is always a disadvantage to capturing a good image.

First Frost

This morning we had our first heavy frost of the season. Out in the backyard a couple of rose bushes were still blooming and I captured these images.

Rainy Season

Our rainy season here in northwest Oregon has been going strong and I haven’t been getting to do any photography in quite a while. Yesterday dawned with clear skies and cool temperatures and i was feeling a bit stir crazy from all the time spent indoors so I headed out to the wildlife refuge outside the near by town of Sherwood, OR.

I didn’t get shots of any of the interesting wildlife that I encountered but i did have an enjoyable walk along the trails in the refuge. It felt good to be immersed in nature again after so long cooped up because of rain and just plain dark dreary lighting conditions.

And a bunch of white berries along the trail.

Along the way home I stopped to snap this shot of Newberg, OR. from the flank of the mountains above town.

This morning for a change of pace I took my morning walk over in Sherwood at the Tualatin River NWR. It had been quite a while since I had last visited the refuge and I was pleasantly surprised to see a lone Bald Eagle perched in one of the large dead trees, far out in the middle of the now dry wetland area.

A Ride down Baker Creek Rd.

I was over in McMinnville this morning and had a little time to kill so I took a ride out Baker Creek Road into the foothills. I had heard there was a nice waterfall along the creek but I was not successful in locating it. However, I did find several interesting photo opportunities.

The first was at Edward Grenfell Park where I had stopped to stretch my legs.

A little farther up into the foothills of the Coast Mountains I encountered this doe sauntering along leading her twin fawns perilously close to the side of the road.

On my way back I spotted this coyote in the middle of a field not far outside McMinnville, Oregon.
